Project 52 July-August

Week Twenty Seven - 3rd July

I finally have some new pics, courtesy of a trip to the Dunstable Downs.

I have written in more detail about the kite flying I saw on the main page of my blog but felt that, as it was one of those unplanned for moments,  this weeks pic had to be of the kite flying formation team, clearly enjoying every moment.

Week Twenty Eight - 10th July

I particularly like poppies, something about their delicate petals and simplicity combined with the vibrant colours. At this time of the year I am always on the look out for a different 'poppy angle'

Week Twenty Nine - 17th July

Continuing my IR experiments I decided to combine infra red with poppies, could I create something different...well I will leave others to judge that but I enjoy the results.

Week Thirty - 24th July

Cropping images can change the impact of an image. I used the letterbox format to create the impression of a mini landscape.

Week Thirty One - 31st July

The next few posts are in retrospect as a result of a very nice cruising holiday to the Baltic.
On 31st July we boarded our ship and left Dover harbour on a beautiful, calm, sunny day. We were lucky in that this weather continued for much of our holiday. I will post a some shots from the first few days, more will be added to the main part of the blog.

The first of many very beautiful sunsets

We spent the first few days at sea. Of course I took the opportunity to wander around with my camera and snap a few shots. The first was very early, about 6ish I think, you notice the lights are still on and there is just one lone swimmer on deck, apart from the one lone photographer!

Later in the day more people appeared and out came the fish eye on the IR camera in an attempt to capture something a little different.

Week Thirty Two - 7th August

We have now arrived in St Petersburg having visited Copenhagen, Stockholm and Tallinn.

Whenever there is an attempt to translate there is always the possibility that amusing mistakes happen. This one was irresistible:-

I enjoy trying to experience something of the 'real' lives for those living in the countries I visit and we had the opportunity for a guided trip on the St Petersburg metro. The walls are decorated with mosaics, sculptures and all sorts of art work, the walls are mostly made of marble.

Week Thirty Three - 14th August

This week we arrived home so just a couple of final pics from the trip.

Well you have to find some way to burn off all those calories, my husband in the gym.

And finally at 6.55 we arrive back in Dover, past the lighthouse we had passed 12 days previously.

Week Thirty Four - 21st August

This week I had the privilege to be a guest at a colleagues wedding. She is one of lifes lovely people, never a bad word to say about anybody, always willing to help and there with a smile when needed (at work we have needed some of those recently!). The weather was very unkind but in her own words 'it really didn't matter at all, I enjoyed every minute'. Of course I took along my camera, snapped away all day (I took about 800 pics!!) and managed to produce a Blurb book as surprise for her. As she did not realise that it is possible to produce book from photographs she was absolutely bowled over. What a joy to be able to bring so much pleasure to somebody else from a hobby. Here are  few highlights from the day.

Week Thirty Five - 28th August

I am very fortunate to have a friend who freely gives of his time to help me out with my photography, in fact I think it would be no exaggeration to say that without his input in the early days I would not be pursuing my hobby in the way that I am. You know who you are and if you are reading this I hope you still know how grateful I am.

Anyway we are now good friends and on a few days each year we go on a photography jaunt. Recently we returned to London for a walk along the South Bank. We decided to start early and, while it seemed like a good plan at the time, the weather was not kind and the first few hours were not very fruitful. After a while we went into Tate Modern, they now allow photography within the galleries. The question is how to photograph other peoples art, I focused on people within the galleries and made use of the fish eye lens, being a fast, 8mm lens it is perfect for inside pics. My selection this week are a few similar pics demonstrating how people interact with the the exhibits....or not!
