I have just added a post to the new blog with photographs from my trips to the Olympics. <br />
Weather wise it was an awful day but we arrived early in expectation of finding something worthwhile.<br />
<br />
Of course Canary Wharf is all about business and commerce so the usual shots of businessmen and women had to be taken.<br />

You can see how awful the weather was. However we did see some sunshine, we persevered and had to take a couple of obligatory shots of the clocks.<br />

Buskers around London are very good these days and these two were no exception. Not only did they play excellent music but also, for a few pence, they were happy for us to take pictures of them for as long as we wished.<br />

My favourite shots are those candid pic which seem to happen from nowhere. You need to be in the right place at the right time with the right equipment and then, along with a bit of luck you get the chance of capturing something a bit different.<br />

Photographically of course I am looking for something new and a bluebell forest has been 'done' so many times that this can prove difficult.<br />
<br />
As with my previous post I look some images home and worked on them in Photoshop...this is what I came up with.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

To me they have a bit of a fairy tale look about them...and they are a bit different to the usual bluebell wood pics.<br />

<br />
In this post I return to the images in the previous post. Rarely do my images
stay the same, over time those with potential often morph into
something new. Here are two which may look familiar, but have a new twist.<br />

We were lucky enough to have good weather for most of the time and I had the chance to get out and take a few photographs.<br />
<br />
I have been wanting to experiment with a minimalist approach to beach photography but, living about as far away as possible in UK from a beach, I have to wait for the opportunity.<br />
<br />
All taken on Camber Sands Beach at about midday - not the best for landscapes I know!!! <br />

As I think I mentioned last time, trying to find something different in Brighton, which has a thriving camera club and many excellent photographers, is a challenge. I tend to wander around with vague ideas of what I am looking for and then watch out for opportunities which present themselves.<br />
As I arrived in Brighton after dark I decided that I would wander around and try out some low light photography.<br />
The Brighton Pavillion is famous and well photographed but I was immediately attracted to the spires and domes lit up against the night sky. Once back home I realised I had a competent image but I wanted to give it a bit of 'ooomph', good photographic word, and bring out more depth, so I added a small amount of fractalius and curves.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBmeQ7tfBgKmYORpuCme3cJhtO4H_5pi3XQg8vaOKpExoCRDfqpchol9uCm5gS8xZgysfqgrvdixWkNkLXmYnSFKa_T8s4MPeEvKxXB7uqnvJFmII1pRZCyuNNV5PDZeiU18LEx6RZMTQ/s1600/Brighton+Pavilion.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBmeQ7tfBgKmYORpuCme3cJhtO4H_5pi3XQg8vaOKpExoCRDfqpchol9uCm5gS8xZgysfqgrvdixWkNkLXmYnSFKa_T8s4MPeEvKxXB7uqnvJFmII1pRZCyuNNV5PDZeiU18LEx6RZMTQ/s400/Brighton+Pavilion.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
The next iconic structure is the burned down pier, which is falling further and further into the sea, it's amazing just how much has been lost in the last year.<br />
I attempted a few candid images, of course in such images luck plays a large part.<br />
<br />
I imagine this metal detectorist..or whatever the correct term is.. to be muttering..'I know there is scrap metal here somewhere'<br />

The original image was taken on the sand, the shape was exactly as seen, the treatment however creates an image which bears little resemblence to the original. I suspect it's an image which will divide, you either love it or hate it! <br />

Most of the zoo animals were keeping warm inside so I turned my attention to some passing wild birds who used the frozen ponds, where the ice had been broken, as a convenient stopping off point.<br />

The weather determined that much of our time was spent inside. <br />
<br />
These two images were continuing the 'At ground level' theme.<br />
<br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The skateboard park on the South Bank is always good for a pic or two, the problem is seeing something different. Fortunately the artwork is constantly changing, presenting new opportunities.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

I have only just got round to looking at some of them and decided to make a post out of some of my favourites.<br />
As they say in all the best competitions...in no particular order <br />
<br />
This one was taken as people were rushing off to work in the morning, me crouched on the floor to get this angle caused more than one strange look!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrrAQRtGT8Ha9dKHmfQCRufLJ2XvYcTsziLPVDrgOAbwrO_nhczLrFNSS-eGDw9gi3_DHfh5HhwacdP28QKp9G6VF1Bii2p8oVQvgNtFNIPTiY8F8hxeVtwQ41E3Bei3-pX4v8cUXzfgQ/s1600/22-Edit.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" oda="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrrAQRtGT8Ha9dKHmfQCRufLJ2XvYcTsziLPVDrgOAbwrO_nhczLrFNSS-eGDw9gi3_DHfh5HhwacdP28QKp9G6VF1Bii2p8oVQvgNtFNIPTiY8F8hxeVtwQ41E3Bei3-pX4v8cUXzfgQ/s640/22-Edit.jpg" width="457" /></a></div><br />
The Millennium Bridge has been photographed many times and yes I took all the usual shots. However I wanted a different angle, when I saw this corner I knew I had it...literally... and it was just a matter of waiting for a city gent to walk past.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZVu5uvOKLFeAebX2qwZeVRpWnRQMxZRvVpvLXM_SuDK4ZQNHBtdAl-Xn4sBLQaYEXbXlysqXXWQalZ3HjKmyNMaWPNe7MN26VqNXV662fBIgieeSjiJ3q9ddVJURiMrfDkPRR-W7PDlc/s1600/55-Edit-Edit.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="352" oda="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZVu5uvOKLFeAebX2qwZeVRpWnRQMxZRvVpvLXM_SuDK4ZQNHBtdAl-Xn4sBLQaYEXbXlysqXXWQalZ3HjKmyNMaWPNe7MN26VqNXV662fBIgieeSjiJ3q9ddVJURiMrfDkPRR-W7PDlc/s400/55-Edit-Edit.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
Sometimes this just seem odd, I called this Ancient and Modern, for obvious reasons.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgr7_hv6eC1mhFbWpXH6f4CDGqwGeSJVF_Gtb5uhExbXD23nj75ndvtINGKAb-SxYghnhyz2C_vfgJybLxvdR8dqF4NCpuVW0vcfE57fFkTefpw2RFXnK2JV_GsnMZr7M0_EQrOS5ppcAw/s1600/76.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" oda="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgr7_hv6eC1mhFbWpXH6f4CDGqwGeSJVF_Gtb5uhExbXD23nj75ndvtINGKAb-SxYghnhyz2C_vfgJybLxvdR8dqF4NCpuVW0vcfE57fFkTefpw2RFXnK2JV_GsnMZr7M0_EQrOS5ppcAw/s640/76.jpg" width="398" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Another odd find was this hot air balloon tethered outside Tate Modern, we never did discover why it was there.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSDu1riFJs0ElODJ9mjKXi4gAu7LXMzlmz3leppMvUXw26uqEM9YK1bJy8rnZMYrd6Yaa_MBNBxbzY-WJYcBwD1CVkdmZmkRh_k9Q7d5XHIBQVbYMx_ZwzJ-QQmTofXET4oxcHOI6UtK8/s1600/85-Edit.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" oda="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSDu1riFJs0ElODJ9mjKXi4gAu7LXMzlmz3leppMvUXw26uqEM9YK1bJy8rnZMYrd6Yaa_MBNBxbzY-WJYcBwD1CVkdmZmkRh_k9Q7d5XHIBQVbYMx_ZwzJ-QQmTofXET4oxcHOI6UtK8/s640/85-Edit.jpg" width="480" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Boris's bikes just had to be taken, although only by photographers it seems!!!</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTf1zpjsEQnnVrpqF_vooSAwzz8SJHYY7ZWcy394Dson8oJB250iYrqsgyZ13laENI0cFSndDBBB5bOYqsdRcK_EglulA_6WoE9HDkqjjcl7DBdBzWdCtIpRqKCSFXPxIWvxKUKLKIAYk/s1600/90-Edit.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" oda="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTf1zpjsEQnnVrpqF_vooSAwzz8SJHYY7ZWcy394Dson8oJB250iYrqsgyZ13laENI0cFSndDBBB5bOYqsdRcK_EglulA_6WoE9HDkqjjcl7DBdBzWdCtIpRqKCSFXPxIWvxKUKLKIAYk/s640/90-Edit.jpg" width="586" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div> This building was lit as you see it, just one of those lucky finds, although I suspect that if entered into a competition it will be dismissed as a selectively coloured image.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjytRnwe8mI5vubEr_HPy7FBkCjPZXBAd1titN_m16OyXkb32VjPwjIe6ICepVr82evG3WuhelTkqseEXbJSxdTgnAtj3rmRfLwCu0vl-YGxMYaShgZiAH6gZNf9wYCROAlHd6FUHTwy-o/s1600/98-Edit-Edit.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" oda="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjytRnwe8mI5vubEr_HPy7FBkCjPZXBAd1titN_m16OyXkb32VjPwjIe6ICepVr82evG3WuhelTkqseEXbJSxdTgnAtj3rmRfLwCu0vl-YGxMYaShgZiAH6gZNf9wYCROAlHd6FUHTwy-o/s640/98-Edit-Edit.jpg" width="420" /></a></div><br />
I always say when taking photographs look, up, behind and down, as well as in front. Looking down I saw this bit of peeling paint always 'appealing' to a photographer!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7jqhMBXlSWpnsVu5iHsvw8gv8rcRze9ryuppnN4U7blSk6JH56OpancTcYoP-rd0JHqOFsAEtZ9S7aCLIfrsH2j_YZnjpkS4bQI4zNIgGPNDwPA6ygs7oVf781q1A6BERXvBSym6bFPw/s1600/108-Edit.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" oda="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7jqhMBXlSWpnsVu5iHsvw8gv8rcRze9ryuppnN4U7blSk6JH56OpancTcYoP-rd0JHqOFsAEtZ9S7aCLIfrsH2j_YZnjpkS4bQI4zNIgGPNDwPA6ygs7oVf781q1A6BERXvBSym6bFPw/s640/108-Edit.jpg" width="480" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">This one had to be taken. I am still working on it in order to get the most out of this image, may be one which will be entered into a competition one day.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-VR8Zjg0FYuQN5BK2XJSy_KU-kikdoH5Ss-61ApSiy2xf18QNxQ-2LfAJJfrrVUyKGtGKsHjTbISR-jlwQ68oOajiNpuS1aEw7JBZ6n_hEdB7wkvqysxNLxx6lCwY-zN7uZneJNvzHk4/s1600/119-Edit-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" oda="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-VR8Zjg0FYuQN5BK2XJSy_KU-kikdoH5Ss-61ApSiy2xf18QNxQ-2LfAJJfrrVUyKGtGKsHjTbISR-jlwQ68oOajiNpuS1aEw7JBZ6n_hEdB7wkvqysxNLxx6lCwY-zN7uZneJNvzHk4/s640/119-Edit-2.jpg" width="512" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">London is full of reflections, again it was a matter of spotting the potential and waiting for somebody to move into the right spot...and bingo there is your image.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZNeimfrFdNEs64R4JicRE1sYP-x81yl1cjy781y97Y1eQefe5UJZEkyuWIQiWYzCPqxBbH0MqanT3H38YKT9Bq-nVCXoEvue10ZdItJkMfM4CsmpFh75JcbLY4mLvSngV7wJiSPuyMzU/s1600/22-Edit.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" oda="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZNeimfrFdNEs64R4JicRE1sYP-x81yl1cjy781y97Y1eQefe5UJZEkyuWIQiWYzCPqxBbH0MqanT3H38YKT9Bq-nVCXoEvue10ZdItJkMfM4CsmpFh75JcbLY4mLvSngV7wJiSPuyMzU/s640/22-Edit.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div>Back to the Millenium Bridge, this time with my infra red camera. I tried a low angle, but I think St Pauls is just a bit too small, back to the drawing board on this one.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjF9Mf9B4EJ-inzPM2qYwxN2W1v99Ag7Vaxt_WclVkB_Jtn6bJfphpQn-I4WfwhQGs0acjyoVPqU2KkVqJ1eG8q7pi3iDq5X9jwQDVFh32rJ4_g5qkEXGrfnX3BmZ51ECf8D0WZBioxiy8/s1600/15-Edit.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" oda="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjF9Mf9B4EJ-inzPM2qYwxN2W1v99Ag7Vaxt_WclVkB_Jtn6bJfphpQn-I4WfwhQGs0acjyoVPqU2KkVqJ1eG8q7pi3iDq5X9jwQDVFh32rJ4_g5qkEXGrfnX3BmZ51ECf8D0WZBioxiy8/s640/15-Edit.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br />
My final image was taken at the end of the day, when we were both rather tired and sitting on a wall getting enough energy to make our way back to the train station. I called this 'Culture Clash' and although I like the idea I think that, to work properly, it needs the young people to be looking towards me rather than away.<br />

</div>Well I said I had some other Baltic Cruise themes to follow and finally I have got round to number two. At first glance the shops all seemed and yet a closer look revealed a very distinct style at each stop, perhaps the shops in this country would look quirky if they were viewed through a visitors eyes! So theme number two is shop windows<br />
<br />
The first image was taken in Stockholm, most of the shops reflected the crisp, clean lines typical of most of their designs, this attracted me because I really had no idea what type of 'Very Important Clothes' they were selling or indeed what the monkey had to do with it!!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEje1fbrZIBygfIK035ZeW5Y2Ncr7HbsW369Nd0NzBRRf7vdGpYP2LBT7goFJj4L3d3higD5oUWZgrd_D0sfbj59WGeb4eAlre3Cy7owyBR_JouyEiktX8v5PiCq_IZIiuCHTZ25TZgAkIs/s1600/Very+Important+Clothes+Stockholm-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" ida="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEje1fbrZIBygfIK035ZeW5Y2Ncr7HbsW369Nd0NzBRRf7vdGpYP2LBT7goFJj4L3d3higD5oUWZgrd_D0sfbj59WGeb4eAlre3Cy7owyBR_JouyEiktX8v5PiCq_IZIiuCHTZ25TZgAkIs/s640/Very+Important+Clothes+Stockholm-2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br />
I enjoy the irony of this image, a man on his phone outside a shop called 'Sound Pollution' !<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiX-TxivpL1acXUMjwRyJ5oVvzJI6jYXb6lRJa0u0lU_2-0_AH-KfMOej89goE6MiYGDhQo8tTCmeVlgq0dGZrQPU8L5XjCSmq3wRDVY2QOQLUYaazYcgwf8tloZOIOQOMg-nsmE3Pu1lE/s1600/Sound+Pollution+Stockholm-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="387" ida="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiX-TxivpL1acXUMjwRyJ5oVvzJI6jYXb6lRJa0u0lU_2-0_AH-KfMOej89goE6MiYGDhQo8tTCmeVlgq0dGZrQPU8L5XjCSmq3wRDVY2QOQLUYaazYcgwf8tloZOIOQOMg-nsmE3Pu1lE/s400/Sound+Pollution+Stockholm-2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
Aarhus felt very similar to many UK shopping centres. Despite language barriers it is still possible to find amusing sights! I have no idea what the signs say...but really it hardly matters.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJgBnYUe2TtUOYOmssaRPF_PoHUjqE3gWJUk28aRU4K-76o3q67Ouaytet_A6OkGDEIJTQZiW-KnrGix_JyKZcBF4cYE_AiRYiR3bPrp_K0ApI8G53m8qi8QoVWReFqGO9CMM3ob91b3A/s1600/Three+men%2521%2521.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" ida="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJgBnYUe2TtUOYOmssaRPF_PoHUjqE3gWJUk28aRU4K-76o3q67Ouaytet_A6OkGDEIJTQZiW-KnrGix_JyKZcBF4cYE_AiRYiR3bPrp_K0ApI8G53m8qi8QoVWReFqGO9CMM3ob91b3A/s640/Three+men%2521%2521.jpg" width="460" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">It was very difficult to spot shops in St Petersburg. Most of them are tucked away, very different to the shopping centres we are used to. This was a typical tourist souvenir shop and it just had to be taken! Most people didn't seem to spot the irony of the sign!</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />

We loved Tallinn and would very much like to return sometime. The side streets were quaint and pleasant to walk around but everywhere there were stalls selling the usual maps, books and souvenirs. The people seemed happy to have their photographs taken and many are dressed in traditional costume.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8IllpboH-2HC6ySuxpInB5I_Wb33SoGFKoEWG0mVydrSX__iS95uMYYgIIQgXnRPslqIgNMNB0D3o_1HJzvFiWuWuimE-NOXA1eAGBNtcxkPkq8aaultURrwNkAfuqoVAhyyYTeZwmEs/s1600/166-Edit.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" ida="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8IllpboH-2HC6ySuxpInB5I_Wb33SoGFKoEWG0mVydrSX__iS95uMYYgIIQgXnRPslqIgNMNB0D3o_1HJzvFiWuWuimE-NOXA1eAGBNtcxkPkq8aaultURrwNkAfuqoVAhyyYTeZwmEs/s640/166-Edit.jpg" width="462" /></a></div><br />
This was one of a series of stalls built into the old city walls, they seemed so incongruous, selling warm woolly clothes in the middle of a hot summer, as you can see she wasn't doing much business.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZWVZBc5c5KUoVHD_9IuXrIZw94ICJvOuMI4zoHzxHXfsFE34tYBdlzGyl0W95xS2MJlX2HIioaRd77TC_yJpe9s1Cl2748G3O8HnLhIJ86Zg7TCCjXJMKVYHMnaQSVzSbqlmTq4lnQXI/s1600/85-Edit.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="303" ida="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZWVZBc5c5KUoVHD_9IuXrIZw94ICJvOuMI4zoHzxHXfsFE34tYBdlzGyl0W95xS2MJlX2HIioaRd77TC_yJpe9s1Cl2748G3O8HnLhIJ86Zg7TCCjXJMKVYHMnaQSVzSbqlmTq4lnQXI/s320/85-Edit.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
However this shop, the Rizzla stall was doing very well, there was quite a queue to purchase all kinds of tobacco.<br />
<br />

Camera in hand I tried to capture some different shots of a well photographed town. I decided, when I returned, that I would edit them in a similar style and used the Fractalius plugin, followers of my blog...all two of you - sorry I exaggerate ;) - will know that I have used this program several times over recent months, sometimes it is successful in improving an image but sometimes it is just a gimmick, I hope these are the former rather than the latter! I hope to produce a painterly effect, apologies to those who have just seen some of these on the Project 52 page, there is some duplication.<br />

</div>Finally today, after what seems like ages, I have been out with my camera for a photo jaunt. I did have a mission from my husband who wanted me to photograph some radio masts for a catalogue he is producing at work. My first port of call was a radio mast in a small lane close to the Downs.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcwygJsCmrQfqtCblFzjh4dmNMOl2v1y2_RNTpcZPWE_PSwHWNBJVdRqawL3SJOEWtmcZAZUzbX1NERW49IHxW4yQPAcRPGnrzOy2lF8nqR5Kvgin35H0R8YDjlBVIS5LyEZVud6eLYho/s1600/11-Edit.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" i$="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcwygJsCmrQfqtCblFzjh4dmNMOl2v1y2_RNTpcZPWE_PSwHWNBJVdRqawL3SJOEWtmcZAZUzbX1NERW49IHxW4yQPAcRPGnrzOy2lF8nqR5Kvgin35H0R8YDjlBVIS5LyEZVud6eLYho/s320/11-Edit.jpg" width="240" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
A relatively easy shot as there was a field next to the lane with easy access and I could get close enough to photograph some of the details as well as the full sized mast.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMJXB5cRR2EuUHD_AadmLA-e1iWjOvfVG0-tgFdk454MFbsXW2fqA1JRitCIk-y186iqpnesdmIbvocMeC9VD4i4CPSmjGBK_4vjFREP2ac6yh9M-WXvZ6A0kcfLjBA65-w43dKV5Hgbk/s1600/21-Edit.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="137" i$="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMJXB5cRR2EuUHD_AadmLA-e1iWjOvfVG0-tgFdk454MFbsXW2fqA1JRitCIk-y186iqpnesdmIbvocMeC9VD4i4CPSmjGBK_4vjFREP2ac6yh9M-WXvZ6A0kcfLjBA65-w43dKV5Hgbk/s200/21-Edit.jpg" width="200" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuVlK-lNU3U0UV4HTvls0ujn19zEw1_DZGnfdcoDk5KoJLVFoSu0hgk-Hr4ZhzvAuUr_oUqlVj__TJ2HBdS5dgOwtP-GX2FbbPye-ZvZ0WyJwjLvolrUgrEpaeoyzY8ek4XYb_wCDbH7E/s1600/54-Edit.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; cssfloat: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" i$="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuVlK-lNU3U0UV4HTvls0ujn19zEw1_DZGnfdcoDk5KoJLVFoSu0hgk-Hr4ZhzvAuUr_oUqlVj__TJ2HBdS5dgOwtP-GX2FbbPye-ZvZ0WyJwjLvolrUgrEpaeoyzY8ek4XYb_wCDbH7E/s320/54-Edit.jpg" width="235" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
The next stop saw me trying to track down a mast I could see the top of, but could not find. I finally found it in a copse on the Downs, well hidden and very difficult to photograph due to the foliage all around. Finally managed this shot...number two in the bag.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I had my IR camera with me and decided to try a bit of an experiment. I had spent the morning so far trying not to include any of the surroundings, focusing entirely on the masts, this pic was an attempt to add a little context. It turns out that this is the star pic, without knowing it fits perfectly into something else my husband wanted a pic for.<br />

By this time I was thirsty and rather hungry so I made my way to the very pleasant visitor centre, I will add a pic one day, for a much needed cup of coffee. <a href="http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main/w-dunstabledownscountrysidecentrewhipsnadeestate">http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main/w-dunstabledownscountrysidecentrewhipsnadeestate</a><br />
<br />
Dunstable Downs is a very popular spot for kite flying, what I hadn't realised until today is that formation kite flying is a serious competitive sport. I spotted a small group practising, it was delightful to watch and I started to snap a few pics. Very soon a gentleman arrived, told me all about kite flying, the different types of kites for different weather conditions and suggested I get in much closer to get some better pics, he said nobody would mind, so I did. In this day and age I tend to assume people will view somebody with a camera with suspicion, it's not always the case.<br />

However a few weeks ago I spent an enjoyable weekend away in Suffolk, at an old mansion house. It was great fun and we enjoyed ourslves and so here are a few highlights. The pics will not win any prizes but sometimes its nice to take photographs to record an event without worrying about the technical side of things. So this post is just for fun, I hope you enjoy.<br />
<br />
Saturday morning saw us getting all competitive on the go karts...of course the girls team won!!!<br />

Having said that I was trying to produce some low level pics and whilst on the floor of the aisle I was gently tapped on the shoulder by a friendly guide who asked if I could let his tour pass by and suggested I could take the opportunity to set up my camera for the next shot, all with a smile on his face. I find it a pleasant change when so many places seem to be suspicious of photographers. <br />
<br />
<br />

Then, taking the gentleman's advice, I switched to my IR camera. I had no idea if this was an appropriate subject for an infra red photograph but, believing that nothing ventured, nothing gained, I gave it a go. Lots of rubbish pictures resulted but this one is passable, I dont think it will win any prizes but I enjoy it, its seems to have a 'sparkle' that the straight mono pictures lacked.<br />
<br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">As I didn't have my tripod I spent much of the time looking for cameos to take, close up of details, again many have gone into the bin but these two survived.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

Hidden away at the back of the building, this seems to fit in well with the ethos of the Cathedral.<br />

However it is reference to the fact that, determined to take a pic or two today, I walked around the corner to the local park, which is part of the Dunstable Downs, with my IR camera and fish eye lens.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8DInnrUS21bLD9T7zlpR26CjWxPZVxLhX-AYP_b1Cp7s6jjnpX-ez0T4WJt_ScxIfAAVG0kB9IvhB5Ze8Z0sG3sWC5FgqWy8qS6-P9LD5pZKHGEaRnbJRX9IH80vNderKkaI6IxO46DI/s1600/71-Edit.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" j8="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8DInnrUS21bLD9T7zlpR26CjWxPZVxLhX-AYP_b1Cp7s6jjnpX-ez0T4WJt_ScxIfAAVG0kB9IvhB5Ze8Z0sG3sWC5FgqWy8qS6-P9LD5pZKHGEaRnbJRX9IH80vNderKkaI6IxO46DI/s640/71-Edit.jpg" width="548" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">As I took this pic, sitting on the ground, I was joined by a friendly golden retriever who seemed very interested in what I was doing. Not only did he come and 'say hello' but he then sat himself down next to me and watched what I was up to. It took his owner quite a bit of gentle persuasion to get him to continue his walk. Anyway I continued and was pleased with this, which has been converted to black and white in PS using the gradient map and then edited using Fractalius.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

By today I needed to get out and blow some cobwebs away and so I visited again with my camera and a selection of my current favourite lenses. In my mind I also had the topics of the club competitions for our next season, yes, I know, way ahead of myself but as I will need 12 in each category I decided to start to think early and get a few possibles saved and in the bank.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmXn4CkuvvK8tbB6o9MSRvFbcf4te3DvizYeSHDBXiYQgXv5oKUOZWENs3XGWtXVviy9njltpeYklTTiCUTPskQ0lkGOq-gm8F167Fp0o4McYLbYWYhJeNkSeIKjH3TjqIR843zseXB5s/s1600/42-Edit.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; cssfloat: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="243" j8="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmXn4CkuvvK8tbB6o9MSRvFbcf4te3DvizYeSHDBXiYQgXv5oKUOZWENs3XGWtXVviy9njltpeYklTTiCUTPskQ0lkGOq-gm8F167Fp0o4McYLbYWYhJeNkSeIKjH3TjqIR843zseXB5s/s400/42-Edit.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>This is the first attempt, I think this could fit into either the 'Differential Focus' or the 'Worms Eye View' competition, but I think its more likely to end up in differential focus, if any at all, as its probably not near enough to the ground for a true Worms Eye View, I think I can do better than this.<br />
<br />
Whether it ends up in either competition or not, I rather like it, and that at the end of the day is all that matters.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiaAGWgBY92uRQgV2_QvkiYXmB5fM-vPuM9lbHY2q9jqAqnQvK34koOiWz3PLd8-7txD0K93IdM-vJIXmEwZEm7ADSX97qV-DopnPE7Jfil3P86woCFIFiBfJXhkzleEFUZj9DAEqprYE/s1600/27-Edit.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="258" j8="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiaAGWgBY92uRQgV2_QvkiYXmB5fM-vPuM9lbHY2q9jqAqnQvK34koOiWz3PLd8-7txD0K93IdM-vJIXmEwZEm7ADSX97qV-DopnPE7Jfil3P86woCFIFiBfJXhkzleEFUZj9DAEqprYE/s320/27-Edit.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Moving along I came across this fellow photographer honing his skills.<br />
<br />
A good plan, get them young.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I then got back in the car and travelled down the road to the monument, where I found the start of a classic car rally, all good fun. <a href="http://www.spiritofdacorum.com/">http://www.spiritofdacorum.com/</a><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhXzgD1D1FbBIO-V8NcJUqJzjllQ0ONlcOQX-5nhKBZDf4rDyk-8vX41uqZ_9JcDtedcyOEs59nVf65lQIIM38EMc-QBt640DSa9BR0Q61iDAi6llKLy4JDvsbDHZWvnJlu_zjDiSzvO4/s1600/159-Edit-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; cssfloat: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" j8="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhXzgD1D1FbBIO-V8NcJUqJzjllQ0ONlcOQX-5nhKBZDf4rDyk-8vX41uqZ_9JcDtedcyOEs59nVf65lQIIM38EMc-QBt640DSa9BR0Q61iDAi6llKLy4JDvsbDHZWvnJlu_zjDiSzvO4/s320/159-Edit-2.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><br />
<br />
They had an old fire engine on display which was a firm favourite with the youngsters.<br />
<br />
<br />
I call this pic 'Too small to be a fireman' <br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Finally I went for a walk amongst the trees with my IR camera, again looking for something new. I noticed that the sun was very bright and shining through the leaves of the trees. Knowing that IR seems to work well in bright light I wondered about the effect I could get if I focused on the leaves <br />

It was fantastic weather with temperatures hitting 25, maybe 26 or 27 during the day. This, of course, bought out many people to the beaches and created its own set of difficulties later in the day when we were looking for those uncluttered cameos.</div><br />
We started at Le Touquet and wondered up and down the beach area as people started to arrive for the day.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjcgVgyt1jEfTlQtoV4kfMo_ycrsw5oDk7aUiRZkXDN5-13LrMnp2qQdYKHmyf5NXRrAJQgSB1opqbtjwHaXr5ezrxuC-3pRphCQ5jdChqc5RIQtOqm28yHDNXavrqns3PVFoMAHCRmwc/s1600/19-Edit.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; cssfloat: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="288" i8="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjcgVgyt1jEfTlQtoV4kfMo_ycrsw5oDk7aUiRZkXDN5-13LrMnp2qQdYKHmyf5NXRrAJQgSB1opqbtjwHaXr5ezrxuC-3pRphCQ5jdChqc5RIQtOqm28yHDNXavrqns3PVFoMAHCRmwc/s640/19-Edit.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>This was one of the first images I took, it was as though somebody had turned up in advance and set it up ready for the people to arrive. Apart from cropping and a low opacity layer of gaussian blur this is much as taken.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-Xhxl-1MPAszJNRV378XJQvmmbU0j2xQDhQ7kEABqJqOiUekZkl-QjcHCn7ozt30bTaah7Dlzx_icMJyTkJKGGyqgX1vwSE5KlRWrYwqiZuzIqi4hMInCj5CH4L_p4-c8xy4M0puDJ78/s1600/66-Edit.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="348" i8="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-Xhxl-1MPAszJNRV378XJQvmmbU0j2xQDhQ7kEABqJqOiUekZkl-QjcHCn7ozt30bTaah7Dlzx_icMJyTkJKGGyqgX1vwSE5KlRWrYwqiZuzIqi4hMInCj5CH4L_p4-c8xy4M0puDJ78/s640/66-Edit.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
Further along the beach and there were more people starting to arrive, but the scenes were still very simple with few elements in them. This image also uses the low opacity gaussian blur layer to give it a slightly dreamy effect.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijh1MDJxEVKdFplskabKiQNtYtdSL3ULI76AGbmdJxjFQPzTnxbrvHGDTuIrCbWuze9M4p-Qdkc1BR7DrPWwm-bEJC2kbjDR-UhrGwYP1r6ii1aV0B8uuSER1PTEX3KhHHlNkKh7ZGAJc/s1600/119-Edit.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; cssfloat: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="517" i8="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijh1MDJxEVKdFplskabKiQNtYtdSL3ULI76AGbmdJxjFQPzTnxbrvHGDTuIrCbWuze9M4p-Qdkc1BR7DrPWwm-bEJC2kbjDR-UhrGwYP1r6ii1aV0B8uuSER1PTEX3KhHHlNkKh7ZGAJc/s640/119-Edit.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>Sometimes things happen which are difficult to explain. I have no idea who these people were or what they were doing, but the tubing and protective gear indicated that perhaps it was some kind of drain repair...who knows! This image is called "Who you gonna call? Ghost busters"<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAGGPRaQlfDhvSZvqqJwLDk215pd4RsnGDYQVCdFKLreLne3-Bf-bt_Edwhw-RQcF32MeXnvVK33kxEAtq7GxjBpAvAPv-7K_nQ6gNvmgZCOQ8jpMJA7eFO-OqgGnDVzOI5KhZ6DTi1WE/s1600/152-Edit.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="595" i8="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAGGPRaQlfDhvSZvqqJwLDk215pd4RsnGDYQVCdFKLreLne3-Bf-bt_Edwhw-RQcF32MeXnvVK33kxEAtq7GxjBpAvAPv-7K_nQ6gNvmgZCOQ8jpMJA7eFO-OqgGnDVzOI5KhZ6DTi1WE/s640/152-Edit.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
As the day wore on more people were emerging and it was more difficult to identify those special moments, or as Cartier Bresson would call it ...that decisive moment.<br />
<br />
This was one of those lucky shots, saw the girl on the mono cycle too late to get a front view, but as she passed I turned and was determined not to miss the chance of a shot, just as this woman stopped to look. Pure luck.<br />
<br />
I call this "I wish I could do that"<br />
<br />
Later in the day we went on to Etaples war cemetery <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%89taples_Military_Cemetery">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%89taples_Military_Cemetery</a><br />

You will notice that the grave in the right hand corner is a German grave. There are areas where the German soldiers are buried together, but this one is amongst British graves, why would this be so? I have tried to find an answer by doing a web search but so far I have not found out why. If anybody has an answer I would be interested to hear.<br />

</div>Yesterday I took my annual trip to Ashridge Forset to look at, and photograph, the bluebells. It is such a well known spot which has been photographed so many times that it is difficult to get something which has my 'stamp' on it. I think I really need to give it another week, when it will be a blaze of colour. <a href="http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main/w-ashridge">http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main/w-ashridge</a><br />

At my camera club I am known for my 'quirky pics' so here is one which might fit into that category.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgilzGcMbR-vxIMaeX7uyipDHsLl5eUeKSZaL8gf_0l_tl8Q0aWib0Gf9bjjUElVHezM7-VBazkdmRmUNlBN5qP4EbpCSDAuYhGNCSCgXvHeJQWN3sFXzbgcERUFJdDRcGA3duA71Fu8gc/s1600/154-Edit.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" r6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgilzGcMbR-vxIMaeX7uyipDHsLl5eUeKSZaL8gf_0l_tl8Q0aWib0Gf9bjjUElVHezM7-VBazkdmRmUNlBN5qP4EbpCSDAuYhGNCSCgXvHeJQWN3sFXzbgcERUFJdDRcGA3duA71Fu8gc/s400/154-Edit.jpg" width="270" /></a></div> <br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
This was taken with my fish eye lens and processed to give a painterly, hazy effect.<br />

<br />
<br />
This one, called a Worm's Eye View, involved me getting on the floor and making myself look rather foolish, not the first time I hear those who know me shout!!! Anyway I think it was worth it, so far this is my favourite.<br />

My question is really to do with how far we need/should go. Of course the answer will always be it depends on the photograph and why the editing is being done. As I have said before filters, conversions, use of plugins etc will never rescue a poor image so we are assuming a basically decent start photograph.<br />
<br />
The reason I am musing over this is because of the last image in my previous post, I kept going back to it believing there was something more in the image which, with some careful editing, could be coaxed out. In my mind I was imaging something a bit whimsical, prompted by the flowing clothes of the ladies mirrored in the billowing trees, also the idea of childhood being carefree and fun, how would these children remember this day?<br />
<br />
Anyway I started to edit and came up with this version, created by cropping and adding some fractalius.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMNQ5ouvJxW5qzq0hHsBx0bWsRIjtzirMw2T7C8EHXi0ZDZ1PZZSOEKpzFcjHlgkctsVmfpJKFdmVZdFZK35Zg0CPPeotsfwgNBbEBzhxPA_4h7376IyKIPK6xe-gAF3CDvPzeNax4eRQ/s1600/Wait+for+me+%25282+of+1%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" i8="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMNQ5ouvJxW5qzq0hHsBx0bWsRIjtzirMw2T7C8EHXi0ZDZ1PZZSOEKpzFcjHlgkctsVmfpJKFdmVZdFZK35Zg0CPPeotsfwgNBbEBzhxPA_4h7376IyKIPK6xe-gAF3CDvPzeNax4eRQ/s400/Wait+for+me+%25282+of+1%2529.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This is the original version for comparison</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvtnZoyWTStAoThmqZVyzysd2TE4iHp7Yw4fJrQN-TSkZnSVp4F8NuoQz-oerfviAWMVJ_DEVrDAUMDQc4H2Nej_PhyuX-ql-3C9fRs6hJR9-EYLL9OEKeR_6J1uZ7rbus3puVh9mY-Y8/s1600/79-3-Edit.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" i8="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvtnZoyWTStAoThmqZVyzysd2TE4iHp7Yw4fJrQN-TSkZnSVp4F8NuoQz-oerfviAWMVJ_DEVrDAUMDQc4H2Nej_PhyuX-ql-3C9fRs6hJR9-EYLL9OEKeR_6J1uZ7rbus3puVh9mY-Y8/s400/79-3-Edit.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I think the reworked version is better, for the reasons stated above, but realise that it is sometimes difficult to be truly objective about your own work so any other opinions would be valued and taken on board.</div>Shirleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11190680795305739585noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8588852872426834173.post-59656728236606396832011-04-12T08:15:00.001+01:002011-04-12T08:27:45.587+01:00Infra Red 2<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This morning I had another look at my pics from the last few days and edited these two.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;">IR seems to suit the bright midday sun, often a no no for many photographers. The bright sunlight, giving an almost skeletal look to the leaf, was the reason I was attracted to this image. I used curves to increase the contrast, darkening the background and giving the leaf a bit of a 'zing' - note the technical photographic word there!</div>Shirleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11190680795305739585noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8588852872426834173.post-48423063681755858522011-04-11T22:18:00.006+01:002011-04-11T22:32:58.339+01:00Infra Red<div style="clear: right; cssfloat: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"></div>Well it has been a while since I added a new post, mainly due to work and other commitments. As I have mentioned I have kept up my Project 52 pages and the most recent mentioned my recently purchased Infra Red camera.<br />
<br />
The advantage of a converted camera over filters is that it can be used as a normal camera, no need for long exposures. Of course there may be times when a long exposure is beneficial, silky water, blurry people etc so, as with most things, it's not a case of one is better than the other, rather the opportunity to try something different. <br />
<br />
As with all photography it takes a while to get your eye in, to 'see' in IR. It is true of all images that a badly composed, out of focus picture will always be a badly composed, out of focus picture, turning to mono, adding a filter or converting to IR will not rescue it. Having said that it seems that some pictures work better in IR, the learning curve seems to be to do with recognising which is which. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiT-VQ-TdfTg0mw8n9FTQkRauERx4nENA-X_qUJkaBsoTJ0grtVQDx1_ykomF0kbtaFK7XjNwCyDoi8oMjIIKNv3HPS7qNk_WDtc89xFl8icHf_CPYAzNF9S4lxFfqwBQT6V_F2LR0rKak/s1600/101-Edit.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" r6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiT-VQ-TdfTg0mw8n9FTQkRauERx4nENA-X_qUJkaBsoTJ0grtVQDx1_ykomF0kbtaFK7XjNwCyDoi8oMjIIKNv3HPS7qNk_WDtc89xFl8icHf_CPYAzNF9S4lxFfqwBQT6V_F2LR0rKak/s320/101-Edit.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>This is one of my first attempts. This is Pitstone windmill, a site I have visited regularly since starting to take my photography seriously, I still have to take a good picture of the windmill. <br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main/w-pitstonewindmill">http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main/w-pitstonewindmill</a><br />
<br />
Of course I wanted to try something different so I swapped the red and blue channels in Photoshop to create an image with, what is known as, false colour.I tried using lead in lines and framing it with foliage from a conveniently placed tree. I suppose its OK but a friend would probably describe this as a 'so what' picture with nothing to distinguish it or make it stand out from the many hundreds which have probably been taken of this windmill.<br />
<br />
Message to self - don't be so predictable, return to the windmill and look for something unusual, or at least take a brilliant pic of the 'normal'!!!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOATJ8WCkwYAfYhublzwvctlvCZyG09RbP5ZO5MEfLoQor0TZgJqbyqXBURfV-t46g8kN_4SiM6mdDrtUmJ010e5Y9e78VGZwKydi1wHKNtB8GJKREjOPpFY37EMFfDlRDsWyU-EsFl0g/s1600/63-3-Edit.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; cssfloat: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="267" r6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOATJ8WCkwYAfYhublzwvctlvCZyG09RbP5ZO5MEfLoQor0TZgJqbyqXBURfV-t46g8kN_4SiM6mdDrtUmJ010e5Y9e78VGZwKydi1wHKNtB8GJKREjOPpFY37EMFfDlRDsWyU-EsFl0g/s320/63-3-Edit.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>I then moved onto College Lake near Tring in Bucks. An old quarry which is now converted into a lovely wildlife area. <br />
<a href="http://www.bbowt.org.uk/content.asp?did=23523">http://www.bbowt.org.uk/content.asp?did=23523</a><br />
<br />
I do struggle with landscape and nature photography and find that this is a good place to experiment. I must admit when I first converted this I rather liked it, however I uploaded it to a forum I frequent and it was pointed out that the two blocks of dark colour are distracting and the viewer would not know if they were water or shadow...fair point.<br />
<br />
Sometimes it is difficult to be objective about your own work.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9J-lAqsHKvyjnSiEqWqyIFxIxqEWyni4ubNewdqQ6Zy_Xm0KsG8i80osfru8czw1Q6cQ_IOfeNGm4oRBSnLoIO7F6QevnJwIV8chm4GmanCZyUZarcjeTlv5a9CH2RPHJXlkJbcd7twA/s1600/2-2-Edit-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="222" r6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9J-lAqsHKvyjnSiEqWqyIFxIxqEWyni4ubNewdqQ6Zy_Xm0KsG8i80osfru8czw1Q6cQ_IOfeNGm4oRBSnLoIO7F6QevnJwIV8chm4GmanCZyUZarcjeTlv5a9CH2RPHJXlkJbcd7twA/s320/2-2-Edit-2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>So having tried some colour versions I then went for the more familiar mono conversion, again this is an image taken at College Lake. This I am happier with, I like the composition, reflections and the ripples in the water. <br />
<br />
It has been commented that the ripples look rather strange, on this occasion I have to say that I don't agree. No prize winner but, for me, a decent landscape.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

I find it a pleasing photograph, but again nothing to write home about!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Now this one I am pleased with - it may well find its way into a club competition sometime.</div><br />
<br />

Once I had finished at College Lake I moved onto Whipsnade Tree Cathedral <a href="http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main/w-whipsnadetreecathedral">http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main/w-whipsnadetreecathedral</a>, only to find it was swarming with young children on an Easter egg hunt. I took a couple of pics but you always have to be a little cautious of taking photographs of young children.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">This all I could manage without feeling awkward. With hindsight I should have made more use of the reflections in the dew pond.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
This is another of the same area, showing all of the dew pond, which is in the process of being constructed. I enjoy this because of the drama of the black sky, which in non IR was bright blue, with not a cloud in sight, and the glow on the trees.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Today I had an hour after work and travelled into Luton to visit Wardown Park <a href="http://www.luton.gov.uk/internet/leisure_and_culture/parks_and_recreation/parks%20and%20open%20spaces/wardown%20park">http://www.luton.gov.uk/internet/leisure_and_culture/parks_and_recreation/parks%20and%20open%20spaces/wardown%20park</a>. This time I took, not only my IR camera, but also a fish eye lens with the intention of finding out what I could do with that combination.<br />
<br />
Advice from my photography advisor and friend is always to take the obvious first, which I did, the fountain, museum building, lake etc. Then I looked around to find something which would take advantage of the fish eye effect.<br />
<br />

This one is called "Just one bottle between us". This is deliberately cropped to give the feeling of space but I am unsure if there is just too much emptiness. <br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Finally the one I am most pleased with, probably because I am back in my comfort zone. Called "Wait for us" (or at least it is until I can come up with something more imaginative.)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Well that's enough for tonight. This is clearly going to be steep learning curve, but it seems as though the possibilities are endless. One good thing from my point of view is that I have seen very few IR prints, this means that I am not limited by what I have seen before or by what others tell me is or is not possible. Thinking outside the box usually produces much more creative images. Thanks for reading and looking.</div>Shirleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11190680795305739585noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8588852872426834173.post-69748208183071595462011-04-10T19:31:00.001+01:002011-04-11T09:05:09.686+01:00Don't Forget Project 52I know I have not updated this section of the site for a while, however I have kept up to date with my Project 52, at least one image per week. I am intending to add a few entries over the next few days, in the meantime why not take a look at the links above.Shirleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11190680795305739585noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8588852872426834173.post-49508470914972497742011-03-06T10:13:00.005+00:002011-03-06T10:24:56.534+00:00A Day in The Museum.This week I had the joy of accompanying approximately 140 12 yr olds to the Science Museum in London. If you are of a similar age to myself and have not visited the museum in recent years you would find that it has changed dramatically since we were children. The order of the day is definitely please DO touch.<br />
<br />
Obviously my main responsibility was to look after the children but I did have my small point and shoot camera so who could resist one or two pics?!!<br />
<br />
As I do not have parental permission to show children's faces I can only show anonymous pictures but I think you will get a feel for our day.<br />

<br />
This gives the children the opportunity to feel the force. <br />
<br />
The image is interesting because she really wasn't going that fast but the shutter speed required in a darkish room meant that she looks as though she is moving very fast. This was one of the favourite exhibits!<br />

A very strange exhibit demonstrating that you can hear through your teeth. This girl had her finger in her ears and she could hear the tune perfectly.<br />

Thoroughly enjoyed by the children...not so much by the staff!!<br />
<br />
Photographically this was a difficult image to capture. It was hand held on my small point and shoot camera, as were all the other images, but the timing and exposure bought its own issues. I was pleased with the timing, due to the longish exposure required I did have a few seconds lee way, but there are still those dreaded blown highlights, not sure if its possible to avoid in such circumstances.<br />
<br />
<br />
These are simply a set of fun images taken as a record of the day. Whilst I could use the small amount of knowledge I have to produce as good a picture as possible my mind was not on picture taking, so I recognise that these are no award winners. Good fun though and honing ones skills at every opportunity can only help improve my photography when I am out to take that earth shattering image!!!Shirleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11190680795305739585noreply@blogger.com0
